The Surfing Nosara Foundation (SNF) evolved out of a desire of expatriates in Nosara to give back to the community, where beyond the beauty of the beach and tropical dry rainforest many residents struggle to meet their basic necessities. The SNF is a volunteer-based Costa Rican non-profit whose mission is to improve the lives of residents in Nosara and surrounding areas by effecting change in public schools and the community, “one project at a time.” The Escuelita de Verano, or summer school, is one of the projects that the SNF has supported for the last 12 years. The goal of this project is to provide a healthy and stimulating environment for children between the ages of 5 and 14 who wish to attend this summer camp and receive a creative outlet for their energy, eat a healthy meal, broaden their knowledge and skills, learn about the environment and enjoy their summer vacations. Escuelita not only benefits the children; it also helps working parents, who are very busy during the tourism high season.
- $45 is the cost per child to attend the la Escuelita camp for three weeks
- 200 kids participated in the camp in 2013
- 5 communities have access to the camp
