The Do It Foundation, a registered Costa Rican Non Profit Foundation, was founded in 2005 as part of a charitable extension of Grupo Do It, headed by John Scheman.
Scheman detected infrastructure needs in rural schools and local health centers and wanted to work with the community. The collaboration with the community began by sending building materials and work crews from the Papagayo Do It Center to make public spaces safe and to promote health and education.
Soon after he became aware there were many people in Guanacaste with mobility issues, Scheman created a partnership with the Free Wheelchair Mission of California. To date, Scheman and his team have imported, assembled, and distributed wheelchairs to over 25,000 families throughout Costa Rica and southern Nicaragua. The goal is to provide a free wheelchair as a gift of mobility to all those who don’t have the resources to buy one.
