Tirimbina is a 345-hectare rainforest reserve and wildlife refuge, it is dedicated to free environmental education for communities and scientific research as a means of preserving biodiversity and is funded through ecotourism and donations from our friends. Tirimbina exists thanks to the joint efforts and love for nature that many people and organizations, both domestic and foreign, have contributed over the years to the protection of what is now Tirimbina.
A Costa Rican nonprofit association currently runs Tirimbina: the Tirimbina Association for Conservation, Research and Education (ATCIE). This association is responsible for establishing the guidelines required to carry out work that is consistent with the mission.
Camera Trap Project
This project is aimed at monitoring mammals within our reserve using camera traps to study mammal diversity and compare public use trails with research use trails in the Tirimbina Biological Reserve. We consider it a unique opportunity to better understand the human impact on these ecosystems and, at the same time, contribute to the preservation of the rich biodiversity that characterizes the region.
Native Plant Nursery Project
Its objective is to propagate native species of our rainforest that are important for the local fauna, giving emphasis to those that have a fundamental ecological role. The plants produced are donated to ecological restoration projects around our forest, strengthening biological corridors and passage, foraging or resting sites for many resident and migratory species.
